North American Masters Championship
Sunday, June, 28 2009
Sutton was outstanding this weekend. I can't remember the last time I had this much fun and was this relaxed at any race. Let alone a big stage race. It would have been even better if the team could have had the houses closer together but we'll figure that out next season (and at GMSR).As for the race - and especially for those who didn't make it - I don't think there is much that needs to be delivered by way of a "race report". Sutton was as good as it's ever been. The weather was a bit wetter than usual but nothing too terrible and Sunday was nearly perfect weather. So, instead of a rambling race blow-by-blow, I'm
going to give out the North American Master's Championships Project Freeride Team Awards (NAMChaProF):
1. Mister Fix-It Award: Scott (for his broken pedal and a released skewer in the same stage - oddly, he didn't figure out the skewer released until after the 80 kph descent)
2. Crit-Master: Chris (his hands were actually bleeding after the race ... now that's a tight GRIP!)
3. Tenacity Award: Andrew S. (first time EVER, chases back on to the lead climbing group of 20 after scenic road climb with only a handful of other riders)
4. Tekmology Award: Andy H. and Gord (the ONLY PowerTap Disc ridden at the Sutton TT for no apparent reason)
5. Suck It Up Award: Rhys (Sickest teammate ever to show up to a stagerace and still actually complete every single stage PLUS attack at the crit ... Sean Scott could learn a few lessons from Rhys)
6. Tifosi Award: Greg (he not ony brought his own cheering section but they actually braved the weather and showed up to EVERY stage - better yet, they cheered on the whole team, not just Greg)
7. Best Performance of a Non-PF teammate: Steve Heck (Won the road race at the top of Mount Sutton by outsprinting a field of 20 - although he loses points for beating me on the Hill Climb on Friday night ... bastard)
8. Phil and Paul Award: Cary (for providing running commentary for every stage ... during the stage).
Thanks to the whole team for coming out and those who couldn't make it for your email support. I am VERY excited about GMSR now and equally bummed about not being able to race provincials.
- Cary
